This year, the Bread Bakers Guild of America is sponsoring a team of professional bakers to represent the United States in the tenth Mondial Du Pain held in Nantes, France from October 19–22. We’re proud to be sending Brian Evans (Candidate/Head Baker) and Val Kertesz (Commis/Junior Baker) to this international showcase of artisan bread-making where the world’s best bakers come together to test their skills, creativity, and dedication. Brian and Val will represent not just the bakery, but our Cleveland community and the United States, bringing our passion for great bread to the world stage.

Why we’re competing

At On The Rise, baking isn’t just what we do — it’s our craft, our passion, and our way to build a community. This year, we’re taking that spirit to the world stage, with a dash of Midwestern charm.

The team

It takes more than great recipes to compete. Leading the bake is our own Brian Evans, Head Baker at On The Rise and U.S. Candidate for the competition. At his side is Val Kertesz, Junior Baker and all-around creative problem solver in the kitchen. And guiding them through months of training is their coach, Louis Volle, a seasoned baker with a deep well of knowledge and a knack for getting the best out of his team.
